The Private Pilots Licence

Approximate cost and time involved

Time

The average time to gain a PPL on Tiger Moths is around 50-55 flying hours. Tiger Moths prefer good weather, so completing a PPL course typically takes one to three years.

Cost

The typical cost of training for a PPL is approximately £8000 to £10,000. This includes flying time, purchase of a flying suit (about £85), text books and the cost for taking the necessary ground and aerial  tests.

You can rent a helmet and goggles from the club or buy your own (between £400-£1000 depending whether surplus, reconditioned or new).

You will need to pay the annual Flying Membership fee to join the group and pay the appropriate dual and solo rate for each training flight.
