The DH 82 Tiger Moth turbine modification
Tiger moths G-AHIZ and G-AOEI have been fitted with air driven alternators.
The CAA certificated modification was conducted in order to provide reliable power for the radio and future fitting of a transponder if enforced.
The turbine was designed to provide 7 amps, 14 volts at 70 knots.
The turbine has been operational on both aircraft over several years and has proved to be reliable.
The modification charges a small NiCad battery. This provides power for taxing and back up. The system uses a master switch, which prevents the discharging of the battery when the turbine is not in operation.
